A shift toward lower-carbon fuels in global energy markets is drawing increasing attention to the significant natural gas potential of Guyana, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago (T&T). These countries are well-positioned to become key suppliers of natural gas\u2014a vital transition fuel in the move toward a more sustainable energy future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This opportunity was the focus of a panel discussion titled “Options for Downstream Gas Developments in Guyana” at the Guyana Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. Vernon Paltoo, President of National Energy in Trinidad and Tobago, emphasized the potential for the three countries to collaborate and form a powerful regional natural gas bloc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTrinidad has decades of experience in natural gas production and a well-established downstream industry, while Guyana and Suriname are rapidly developing their gas sectors,\u201d Dr. Paltoo noted. \u201cThe opportunity is there for us to collaborate in terms of development of the economies of the region. The more we do this together, the stronger we will be from a regional perspective.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
