Among them are Alexis Williams and Noel Punch, a married couple working for G-Boats Incorporated, an affiliate of Edison Chouest Offshore. Alexis serves as a land-based QHSE (Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment) Coordinator, while Noel works offshore as Chief Mate aboard the platform supply vessel C-Confidence.

Together, they demonstrate dedication, expertise, and a shared passion for the maritime industry. Neither Alexis nor Noel initially envisioned careers with G-Boats. Alexis transitioned from oil spill management to G-Boats after Noel encouraged her to apply. “With a solid interview, I was given the opportunity to become a part of the maritime industry,” she shared.

Noel, guided by a friend, embraced the life of a mariner despite having little prior knowledge. Today, he’s one of the first Guyanese nationals to achieve the rank of Chief Mate at G-Boats, a role he finds deeply rewarding.

Alexis finds fulfillment in her QHSE role, which ensures safety across the company. “I was captivated by the importance of ensuring everyone’s safe return home,” she explained. Noel, meanwhile, takes pride in navigating and operating the vessel safely and building trust with his crew aboard the C-Confidence. Having met in high school, Alexis and Noel’s relationship predates their maritime careers.

Working at G-Boats has strengthened their bond by providing a shared understanding of maritime operations. “We communicate on a newly found frequency,” Alexis said. Balancing demanding careers and family life isn’t easy. Alexis, who says she’s always on duty, makes time for family during slower days, while Noel stays connected during his 28-day rotations at sea via calls. Off duty, they cherish moments with their daughter and support each other’s hobbies.

When reflecting on what they appreciate most about working for G-Boats as a company, Alexis highlighted the family-oriented culture. “I appreciate that the company is built around family as the most important foundation. Being able to be present for major milestones with your family through the flexibility of our managers while ensuring your job done is great,” she said.

Noel shared his gratitude for the opportunities he has been given. “I’ve been able to have a career in this lucrative industry, while meeting people of different nationalities and backgrounds,” he said.

Both have ambitious goals. Alexis aims to broaden her expertise across departments, while Noel aspires to become a Captain and later transition to a shoreside role. They encourage other Guyanese to consider maritime careers, emphasizing resilience and a focus on continuous learning.

Alexis and Noel believe in Guyana’s maritime potential, envisioning growth and improved opportunities for local talent. Their journey with G-Boats exemplifies the limitless possibilities in the maritime industry.

The maritime industry is making significant strides in Guyana, with local talent emerging as key contributors to the sector’s success.
