As the Stena DrillMAX embarks on its journey from Guyana to her next campaign in Suriname and then on to São Tomé, a crew of skilled Guyanese professionals stand proudly onboard — representing their country with dedication, pride, and an eye on the future.

Keeping the Rig Running: The Role of a Derrickman “My interest in the Oil & Gas industry started when Guyana first discovered oil … I was curious on how they managed to get it out from the ground.” —Raymon Chaturia, Derrickman
With over six years of offshore experience, one derrickman aboard the DrillMAX is a vital part of the drilling operation.
Tasked with conditioning drilling fluids, maintaining mud pumps and bulk systems, and monitoring volumes, his role is both technical and critical. Previously with Noble Drilling and Carnival Cruise Lines, Raymon now applies his skills and experience in the demanding offshore environment and believes that when work gets complicated and decisions are hard, he can rely on his training and the great team around him to give their support.
More Than Hospitality: Safety, Service, and Stewardship

“This journey is not just a job — it’s a dream come true.” —Romona Leonard, Stewardess
Romona Leonard, stewardess aboard the DrillMAX, plays a multifaceted role: maintaining accommodation quarters, office spaces, and the onboard coffee stations, as well as helping in both the Laundry and 18 Galley. But her contributions do not stop there. She is also part of the emergency response team and was recently elected Department Safety Officer, a testament to her growing leadership. Romona has always loved the sea, and when she first heard about offshore oil work, she became fascinated. She now gets to live that dream and help shape a safer, more welcoming environment for everyone onboard.
Voicing the Connection: Seamless Offshore Communication

“It’s an honour to show the world what Guyanese professionals can do.” —Kendra Pereira, Radio Operator
One of the most vital behind-the-scenes roles aboard the Stena DrillMAX is held by a Kendra Pereira, radio operator — a former teacher and aviation worker who now ensures precise crew coordination, tracks arrivals and departures, and helps maintain essential records. Having already supported operations in Canada, this voyage marks yet another milestone in Kendra’s career. She believes that being part of this international journey is a huge achievement, and allows her to contribute globally, while sharing the Guyanese culture and professionalism.
Sailing into Opportunity: We’re not just working for ourselves — We’re representing Guyana
The journey from Guyana to Suriname and São Tomé isn’t just another assignment — it’s a symbol of the increasing global footprint of the Guyanese workforce in offshore oil and gas. For many onboard, this opportunity signifies the start of something greater. Guyanese people cannot only work locally but can now work internationally with this industry. The open sea offers more than just a beautiful view; it provides a stage for skills development, technical readiness, and career advancement. From equipment testing and maintenance to cross cultural teamwork, the crew is preparing not only for the next operation, but for the future of Guyana’s offshore legacy.
Team Spirit on the High Seas
Crew members agree that even when you’re far from home, the crew becomes like family. Despite the rigorous nature of offshore work, the mood onboard the DrillMAX remains positive and supportive. Crew members speak of a camaraderie that bridges nationalities and backgrounds — a shared commitment to safety, excellence, and progress. There’s a sense of pride, and the crew are excited to show what they can do, and that includes representing their country in the best possible way.
Opening Doors for the Next Generation: This is just the beginning for Guyanese professionals in oil and gas
