Stena Drilling engages with Guyanese at Guyana Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo 2025

Stena Drilling, a leading offshore drilling contractor, successfully participated in the Guyana Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo (GECSCE) 2025, which took place from February 18 to 21 at the Guyana Marriott Hotel in Georgetown.

The event, themed “Connecting the Dots: Integrating the Future,” attracted over 7,000 attendees and featured more than 180 booths, serving as a critical platform for industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss advancements and opportunities in the energy and supply chain sectors.

By attending the Guyana Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo 2025, Stena Drilling reinforced its role in the region’s energy transformation and strengthened its commitment to supporting Guyana’s long-term energy growth and supply chain development.

This event was a great success for Stena Drilling allowing the organisation to:

  • Strengthen industry relationships: The conference provided an opportunity to engage with key decision-makers, including government officials, major operators, and service providers in the energy industry.
  • Showcase expertise and technology: Stena Drilling highlighted its ongoing presence in Guyana with the 6th Generation Harsh Environment Managed Pressure Drilling Drillship Stena Carron. The vessel has been operating in Guyana since 2016, with sister vessel Stena DrillMAX also active in Guyana in recent years. The conference allowed Stena Drilling to showcase the advanced drilling solutions, sustainability initiatives, and operational capabilities of these units to conference delegates, reinforcing its position as a leader in offshore drilling.
  • Support local content development: As Guyana continues to emphasize local workforce integration and supply chain participation, Stena Drilling leveraged the event to explore potential collaborations with local businesses and suppliers.

The GECSCE 2025 drew significant participation, with over 80 companies taking part. The conference featured a series of panel discussions, technical sessions, and networking opportunities, fostering collaboration and addressing challenges in the evolving energy sector.

Stena Drilling’s booth attracted a high level of interest, as industry professionals and stakeholders engaged with its experts to explore Stena Drilling’s offshore drilling track record in Guyana and world-wide.

To provide an immersive experience, the booth featured Virtual Reality (VR) headsets, allowing visitors to tour Stena Drilling’s offshore rigs and gain first hand insight into offshore operations and life at sea.

In addition to showcasing its industry expertise, Stena Drilling proudly highlighted its commitment to local workforce integration. The booth was staffed by Guyanese crew members from the Stena Carron, including Melissa George – Night Cook Baker, Kolis Batson – Head Chef, Shervin Wayne – Lead Steward and Sherman Oxford – Radio Operator.

Rig Manager for Stena Carron, Tim Swain, took part in the ‘Building a Future Ready Workforce’ panel session. Tim shared insights on talent development, skills enhancement, and the importance of integrating local expertise into offshore drilling operations. He emphasised Stena Drilling’s commitment to workforce training, mentorship programs, and career progression initiatives, ensuring that local talent is equipped with the necessary skills to thrive in the energy sector. As part of the panel discussion, it was explained how Guyanese crews working on-board Stena DrillMAX are also now supporting Stena Drilling’s operations out with the country. This includes a recent campaign in Canada for Stena DrillMAX, and work for an upcoming program in Suriname. His contribution during the panel discussion underscored the company’s dedication to building a sustainable and competent workforce for the future.

As part of its engagement strategy, Stena Drilling offered giveaways, including locally crafted bottles of Stena Drilling ‘Pepper Sauce’, developed in collaboration with local food merchant ‘Kelvin’s Taste’. This initiative proved immensely popular, with high-profile visitors such as the Guyanese Prime Minister, Vice President, and Minister of Natural Resources receiving the exclusive gift.
